Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz send messages to Lando Norris on social media after he wins the F1 world title

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic were quick to send their congratulations to Lando Norris last night, who won his first-ever F1 world title.

It had been a long time coming for the 26-year-old, who has spent his entire career thus far at McLaren.

He finally paid back their faith with a scintillating season of driving, resulting in him finishing top of the leaderboard despite a third-placed finish in Abu Dhabi.

That was enough to pip Max Verstappen and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri though, and earn him the ultimate accolade.

Tennis has long had a strong relationship with Formula One, and that seemed no different yesterday with the messages of congratulations that came from two of the former’s biggest stars.

Djokovic was first to issue praise, taking to his Instagram story to write: “Congratulations Lando. What a season! You are a world champion!”

Alcaraz echoed that sentiment, but in far shorter fashion, adding in the same format: “Many Congrats!”

Norris will feel delighted to have won his first World Drivers’ Championship, especially given how he squandered the opportunity to secure the title a week earlier in Qatar.

Whilst Alcaraz and Djokovic were keen to congratulate the Brit on their social media, Jannik Sinner was actually in attendance in Abu Dhabi as he enjoyed the final showdown of the F1 season.

However, this is not the first time we have seen tennis and F1 intertwine, and likely will not be the last.

After all, just last month saw Djokovic make the trip to Qatar, whilst the likes of Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur and Karen Khachanov were all spotted in Abu Dhabi over the weekend.
