Nottingham Forest are now in talks with Atlético Madrid over a deal for Mario Hermoso – a player Tottenham had doubts about.
What’s the story?
Well, it was the Daily Mail who claimed that the Spain international was being considered by Spurs back in May ahead of a potential summer move.
However, an underwhelming 2021/22 campaign for the 27-year-old led Tottenham to question whether he would actually be a good signing.
Eventually, the north Londoners decided against signing Hermoso, and brought Clement Lenglet to N17 on loan from Barcelona.
Now, Nottingham Forest are willing to take a gamble on the centre-back.
Sky Sports believe Steve Cooper’s side are in talks with Atlético Madrid over a loan deal for Hermoso.

Nottingham Forest are familiar with the Spanish giants having already negotiated a loan deal to sign Renan Lodi back in August, so their relationship could be deemed as strong after that successful discussion.
The Atlético Madrid No.22 has only made four appearances in La Liga so far this season after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.
Nottingham Forest could embarrass Tottenham
Despite the signing of Lenglet, Antonio Conte is still targeting defensive reinforcements, with The Times claiming that the Italian wants a new centre-back.
Lenglet has been largely underwhelming, while Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier can also be improved on.
Therefore, if Nottingham Forest end up signing Hermoso and he does well, after Tottenham decided against signing the Spaniard, it would be quite embarrassing for Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Spurs.
Alternatively, it could also be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham.
Hermoso could impress at the City Ground, proving himself capable of shining in English football, leaving Spurs to then sign him in the summer if Nottingham Forest end up returning to the Championship.
Keep an eye on the situation, as talks between Nottingham Forest and Atlético Madrid continue.
