Nottingham Forest have had a £3.5 million bid accepted for Hwang Ui-Jo but the Bordeaux striker’s representatives are pushing a move to Premier League rivals Wolves instead, Radio France reporter Clement Carpentier writes on Twitter.
Is there a player Nottingham Forest haven’t made an offer for this summer?
Seriously, you’d need a more storage space than a supercomputer to keep tabs of all the footballers who have been linked with a move to Steve Cooper’s City Ground side since they defeated Huddersfield Town in May’s play-off final.
On Friday alone, Nottingham Forest agreed deals for both Atalanta’s Remo Freuler and Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis. According to L’Equipe, relegated, cash-strapped Bordeaux also accepted an initial £3.5 million – plus bonuses – offer for Hwang Ui-Jo.
So can we expect to see the hard-running, sharp-shooting 29-year-old battling Taiwo Awoniyi for a starting spot in Garibaldi red this season? Well, perhaps not. Because, according to Carpentier, Hwang’s encourage ‘is pushing for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ instead.
Wolves or Nottingham Forest for Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui Jo?
Does Hwang see Molineux as a more sensible move, given Forest’s newly-promoted status? Does he fancy playing alongside Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence and Goncalo Guedes? Or does he simply want to reunite with a familiar face; Fellow South Korea international and namesake Hwang Hee-Chan?
Well, according to Carpentier, the reason why Hwang Ui-Jo’s camp are pushing for Wolves over Nottingham Forest is a ‘financial’ one. Presumably, Wolves are offering greater terms, even if their £2.5 million offer falls short of the one Forest submitted.
Then again, if Wolves are serious about Hwang – scorer of 23 goals in the last two Ligue 1 seasons and an excellent, affordable addition for Raul Jimenez – then surely they will have no qualms about matching Nottingham Forest’s £3.5 million bid.
Hwang admitted earlier in the summer that West Ham had made an approach to secure his services. That trail has grown cold, however, following Gianluca Scamacca’s £30 million arrival.
