Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed Remo Freuler’s impending £7.5 million move to Nottingham Forest as the Premier League outfit close in on the Serie A veteran, speaking to Tuttomercatoweb.
After six years in Bergamo, the experienced Switzerland international obviously feels the time has come for a new challenge.
And he’ll certainly find one at Nottingham Forest; A historic old club back in the top-flight after 20 years away, and desperate to avoid an immediate return to the Football League. Freuler’s big-game nous, vast experience and tactical flexibility could be worth it’s weight in gold too, with one of the most intelligent footballers around capable of thriving as a deep-lying midfielder and a left-wing back.
According to The Guardian, Nottingham Forest have agreed a £7.5 million fee with Atalanta. Freuler will sign a three-year deal, reportedly worth £30,000-a-week.
Atalanta coach confirms Remo Freuler’s Nottingham Forest switch
“Freuler had this opportunity, (and) it materialised in a short time,” Gasperini says.
“Now he went to the Premier League. Clearly, he’s a player I’m very fond of. If he’s happy with (his Forest switch), I thank him for what he did in the Atalanta shirt and wish him the best.”
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Freuler is not the only Atalanta player on Nottingham Forest’s radar. The two-time European champions are reportedly offering £12 million for Ukrainian playmaker Ruslan Malinovskyi; An iron fist in a velvet glove with a ‘canon’ of a left boot and a penchant for long-range wondergoals.
“As long as the market is open, voices and requests arrive every day,” Gasperini adds when asked about Malinovskyi.
“You have to be open to everything. With the market open until September 1st, it is normal for there to be sudden situations like Freuler.”
Nottingham Forest are also closing in on a deal for the tricky Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis. At £20 million, he will reportedly replace Taiwo Awoniyi as Forest’s record signing.
