Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest look to have missed out on another transfer target as free-agent striker Facundo Ferreyra closes in on a move to Chilean outfit Colo-Colo, according to En Cancha.
The appointment of chief executive Dane Murphy was supposed to herald a fresh start for a Forest side that has had more false dawns than Mario Balotelli’s career.
But while Murphy’s transfer market nous and eye for a bargain helped transform Barnsley from relegation candidates into promotion contenders, the Connecticut-born talent-spotter has endured a difficult start to life at the City Ground.
Max Lowe, Ethan Horvath, Djed Spence, James Garner, Braian Ojeda and particularly Philip Zinckernagel could prove inspired additions.
But Nottingham Forest have also endured their fair share of disappointments in the transfer market since Murphy’s arrival.
The two-time European champions made three bids for Zian Flemming without success, while Abdou Harroui, M’Bala Nzola and Sandro Kulenovic all turned down offers from a club that currently sits bottom of the Championship with only one point.
And, according to reports from South America, 30-year-old striker Facundo ‘Chucky’ Ferreyra is set to put pen to paper with Colo-Colo despite receiving an offer from Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest miss out as Ferreyra performs U-turn
Colo-Colo, 32-time winners of the Chilean top flight, have offered the one-time Newcastle United, Benfica and Celta Vigo forward a contract until summer 2022.
En Cancha claims Nottingham Forest are the only club in the whole of Europe to submit an offer for Ferreyra.
But the former Argentina U20 international has verbally agreed a shock move to the Estadio Monumental instead, a dramatic U-turn by a man who previously insisted he had no interest in returning to South America.
Nottingham Forest have scored 41 goals in their last 51 Championship games. A new striker would have been welcomed with open arms.
