Britt Asombalonga’s Nottingham Forest future is in question but would they really sign Wolves’ Joe Mason to replace his goal output?

After retaining their Championship status by virtue of goal difference last season, it’s hardly a surprise that Britt Assombalonga has been tipped to move up the footballing pyramid this summer.

According to The Mirror, Premier League Burnley are preparing another bid after having an offer of £8 million rejected for Forest’s record signing, who netted twice in that final day 3-0 win against Ipswich Town to send Blackburn Rovers down instead.

And the report claims that Middlesbrough, who are prepared to give new manager Garry Monk a huge financial backing this summer, are also besotted with the striker.

Needless to say, therefore, Forest supporters aren’t particularly impressed with the man the club has reportedly lined up as a potential new addition while their prized asset faces an uncertain future.

HITC sources told us that Forest are interested in Wolves forward Joe Mason and will battle Queens Park Rangers for his signature.

Now, just for the purposes of a comparison, it’s worth noting that Assombalonga netted 14 goals in 20 appearances last season. If he had been fit the entire season, there’s no reason to believe he couldn’t have challenged Leeds’ Chris Wood for the Golden Boot.

Mason, on the other hand, hit the back of the net just three times for Wolves while only nine of his 19 appearances came in the starting XI.

Therefore, few supporters believe he could supplement the loss of one of the league’s most prolific marksmen.
