Nottingham Forest are confident they can lure Harry Toffolo to the Premier League for just £2.5 million with the left-back’s Huddersfield Town contract running down, according to The Athletic.

Talk about rubbing salt into those raw Huddersfield wounds.

It is just five weeks since Nottingham Forest defeated Carlos Corberan’s coupon-busting side in a controversial play-off final at Wembley Stadium. Not content with breaking Huddersfield hearts on the pitch, Forest could now set deliver an almighty blow to the their hopes of another top-six finish in the boardroom.

Toffolo, arguably the finest left-back in the Championship last season, will be a free-agent in 2023. As such, Nottingham Forest are convinced that a cut-price £2.5 million can be agreed with a man who has also emerged as a transfer target for the likes of Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers.

The adventurous, all-action Toffolo provided six goals and eight assists last term. Not bad for a so-called ‘defender’.

According to the Daily Mail, Toffolo is not the only Huddersfield stalwart on Steve Cooper’s shopping list either. And the tireless, tenacious Lewis O’Brien has a £12 million release clause in his John Smith’s Stadium contract.

“He is a brilliant player,” Corberan tells the Examiner Live of the one-time Leeds United target.

“This year he has played as a left-back and a wing-back, in his best position in midfield, as number eleven, as a ten, and even as a number seven the other day. But it’s not only the fact that Lewis O’Brien can compete at a top-level every single time he plays, whatever position he is on the football pitch, it’s how he reacts to how you make him play in different positions.

“There is what makes him a special player. He is going to be an exceptional player and he is never going to stop growing.”

Nottingham Forest completed the signings of Dean Henderson and Guilian Biancone over the weekend. Taiwo Awoniyi, meanwhile, became the club’s new record-signing to the tune of £17.5 million.
