Premier League trio Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Wolves want Lewis O’Brien with Huddersfield Town coach Carlos Corberan insisting that the midfielder will become ‘an exceptional player’, speaking to Yorkshire Live.

If reports are to be believed, there is a £12 million release clause in the contract O’Brien signed a few months ago (Planet Sport).

So, while the Huddersfield academy graduate reacted with typical maturity after being denied a move to Leeds in the summer of 2021, history is unlikely to repeat itself if a place in the Premier League slips through Corberan’s fingers.

Huddersfield, this season’s surprise packages along with fellow overachievers Luton Town, are currently fourth in the table.

But they have lost both of their last two Championship games. Including a 3-0 home reverse to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

O’Brien captained Huddersfield when Scott Parker’s side came to town. One of the division’s most influential, most complete midfielders will not be an easy man to replace, should long-time admirers Leeds trigger the very affordable release clause in his contract in the off-season.

Will Leeds finally sign Lewis O’Brien?

“He is a brilliant player,” says former Leeds U23 coach Corberan, highlighting the versatility of a man who’s played in the middle and on the left this season.

“But it’s not only the fact that Lewis O’Brien can compete at a top-level every single time he plays, whatever position he is on the football pitch. It’s how he reacts to how you make him play in different positions.

“There is what makes him a special player. I don’t see limits in his career and I don’t see limits in his potential.

“O’Brien is one player who will never limit himself. He is motivated to compete in every single space, in every single moment, in every single minute of the season.

“He does it all with a level of humility. That means he is going to be an exceptional player and he is never going to stop growing.”

Former Huddersfield chairman Phil Hodgkinson admits that Leeds submitted four separate bids last summer for a man now on the radar of Palace and Wolves.
