Flamengo starlet Joao Gomes has not yet received an offer from Real Madrid or Premier League giants Liverpool, the club’s Vice President Marcos Braz tells PodFla

You can now add Brighton and Hove Albion to Fulham, Napoli, Manchester United and arguably Everton too; Roberto di Zerbi’s high-flying Seagulls becoming the latest side to go toe-to-toe with Jurgen Klopp’s punchdrunk Liverpool, exchanging jabs while threatening to deliver a knockout blow during a thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

It was yet another game in which Liverpool looked like a fading shadow of their once-effervescent selves; Jordan Henderson and Fabinho struggling to cope with the intensity and interplay of their free-flowing opponents.

So, for some Liverpool supporters, Janaury cannot come soon enough.

And 21-year-old Joao Gomes, labelled the ‘new Casemiro’ by some due to his Duracell energy reserves and tough-tackling tendencies, could be the man Klopp needs to jolt some life into his spluttering engine room.

But, according to Braz, reports suggesting that Gomes could be on his way to Merseyside or Madrid in the New Year are wide of the mark. At least, for the time being anyway.

Liverpool and Real Madrid reportedly like Joao Gomes

“There was no consultation regarding the player Joao Gomes. He had nothing (no offers), at least that we were aware of, from Real Madrid, from Liverpool,” the Flamengo VP explains.

“Also, if he had, we at that moment (in the summer) would not have any concerns about his contract. The player is safe. He still had two years of contract remaining with Flamengo. It wouldn’t be a problem because he wouldn’t leave.”

Gomes has seemingly put speculation over his immediate future to bed, signing a new, long-term deal until 2027 a couple of weeks ago.

“He has a contract in force. A high price-tag,” Braz adds. “We recognise his efforts, what he represents now, his status as a starter. Today, Joao has a five-year contract.”

RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer and Guido Rodriguez have also been linked with Liverpool of late. Ditto Moises Caicedo; the Brighton enforcer offering Klopp a timely reminder of his sky-high potential with a typically rambunctious display at Anfield this weekend.
