Swedish outfit Hammarby have had ‘no contact’ with Rangers about a potential January move to Ibrox for Akinkunmi Amoo, as reported by AllNigeriaSoccer.
The Scottish Premiership champions were being linked with a whole host of talented widemen even before Ianis Hagi suffered a season-ending injury in Friday’s 4-0 thrashing of Stirling Albion.
And, with less than a week in the transfer window remaining, no one will be too surprised if Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Ross Wilson and co step up their pursuit of attacking reinforcements between now and February 1.
Especially with Hagi expected to be out of action until the 2022/23.
According to reports, Anderlecht’s Francis Amuzu, Galatasaray’s Olimpiu Morutan and AZ Alkmaar forward Albert Gudmudsson have admirers on the blue side of Glasgow.
Rangers have also reportedly submitted a £5 million bid for Bologna’s Andreas Skov Olsen.
But if some supporters were hoping to see Amoo arrive instead, well we wouldn’t recommend holding your breath.
Who will replace Ianis Hagi at Rangers?
“I have heard nothing from Rangers,” explains Patrick Mork, Amoo’s agent.
AllNigeriaSoccer also contacted Mikael Hjelmberg, the chief scout at Hammarby. And he struck a similar tone to Mork when asked about Amoo’s future at the Allsvenskan outfit.
“There has been no contact with Rangers,” says Hjelmberg. “I don’t think he’s leaving Hammarby in the January transfer window.”
This is not the first time that Amoo has been linked with a move away from Hammarby.
Then again, interest is to be expected when we’re talking about a 19-year-old who contributed 13 goals and five assists to the cause in his first full season of senior action.
Borussia Dortmund, Ajax and Leicester City are just three of the clubs to have shown a desire to take Amoo, who is valued in excess of £3.5 million, away from the relatively small pond that is Scandinavian football.
According to Goal, the twinkle-toed teen rebuffed advances from AC Milan and Monaco in the past.
Amoo, due to his jinking runs and wand of a left foot, has been nicknamed ‘little Messi’ by some.
