Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has given an update on Arsenal’s injury situation, claiming that David Luiz won’t be back fit.

The Brazilian has been nursing an injury in recent weeks, but it seemed as though he would be back in contention before the end of the season.

Sadly, Arteta says that Luiz still hasn’t recovered from his issue, claiming that we will have to see how he gets on over the next few weeks.

The Spaniard also said that Arsenal were nursing a number of other problems after their win against West Brom.

‘We have to see today, there were some issues over the weekend again. We are playing every three days and there is no time to train yet, today is the first day so we will have to wait and see. Yes [there were] some injuries, yes,” Arteta said.

“Well the situation with David [Luiz] is that he is not yet recovered, we will see how he does in the next few weeks. The rest are still in contention but we will have to see today how they come.”

This is a real shame about Luiz.

The Brazilian’s Arsenal contract is coming to an end, and there’s every chance that he won’t be in the Premier League next season.

It would have been brilliant to see Luiz play against his former club one last time, but at this rate we may be lucky to see him ever play in the Premier League again.

Fingers crossed Luiz is back sooner rather than later.
