Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has been discussing Anthony Gordon amid ongoing links to Tottenham.

It was reported earlier this week that Spurs were eyeing up a double deal to sign both Gordon and Richarlison from Everton, but with Richarlison seemingly set to join Tottenham, the trail has gone cold on Gordon.

According to Eccleshare, Spurs do like Gordon, but this will be a tough deal to do, and the journalist doubts whether or not the London club want Gordon enough to cough up the cash needed to bring him in.

What’s been said?

The reporter discussed Gordon and Tottenham.

“I think that one will be a lot harder to do. Spurs like him and they have made enquiries about him, but he is the guy at Everton, he’s the youngster coming through that they’re pinning their hopes on, he’s a guy Lampard wants to build the team around,” Eccleshare said.

“It would take a massive, massive offer, and I’m not sure they want him enough to do that just yet. Also I think Everton need to make one big sale and that will be Richarlison, I don’t think they’ll sell Gordon. He is a player Spurs like and I think he’s a very interesting player.”

Maybe if Everton go down

Anthony Gordon is clearly a player that Tottenham like, but with Everton receiving huge money from Richarlison’s sale, they’re under no pressure to let Gordon go.

However, that could change next summer if the Toffees are relegated from the Premier League.

Yes, Everton haven’t been relegated in the Premier League era, but they went very close last season and they’re yet to strengthen their squad from last term.

Everton are relegation candidates, and if they do go down, don’t be surprised if Spurs swoop for Gordon.
