Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel last week, Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas made a very cryptic claim about Tottenham’s transfer business.
Indeed, Thomas refused to name any names, but at the time he suggested that Richarlison wasn’t the only Everton player that the London club were keen on.
“But as far as I understand it there are not clubs that are queuing up for Richarlison at the moment, Everton are keen to do a deal and clubs do know that, but here we are and it’s not transpired yet. It’s a very interesting one and he’s certainly not the only Everton player Spurs like,” Thomas said.
As you may imagine, these comments caused a fair bit of buzz amongst the Spurs fanbase with many supporters on social media attempting to guess who Thomas was alluding to with his mysterious claim.
However, now it has seemingly become clear that the player in question was none other than Anthony Gordon.
Indeed, according to numerous reports, including one by Thomas himself, Spurs are eyeing up a double swoop for both Richarlison and Gordon from Everton this summer.
This news seemed to come from out of nowhere on Monday, but this one does seem to have been in the pipeline for a little while based on Thomas’s comments on the matter last week.
The journalist had seemingly caught wind of Tottenham’s interest in Gordon way in advance, and now, the cat is out of the bag and it looks like Spurs are going to pursue the 21-year-old.
So, what’s so interesting about this? Well, it shows that while stories can break at any time, there is constant work going on in the background at Tottenham, and while we don’t get to know all of the ins and outs of every rumour and deal, the cogs within the recruitment machine never stop turning.
Spurs have only been linked with Gordon for 24 hours, but this is one that they’ve seemingly been lining up for a little while.
