Garth Crooks has admitted on BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur right-back/right wing-back Emerson Royal is not his favourite player, but the former Spurs forward has still praised him for his performance against Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend.
Crooks has included Emerson in his BBC Premier League Team of his Week, and has said that the £62,000-a-week (SalarySport) Brazil international was very impressive against defending Premier League champions Manchester City.
Tottenham beat City 1-0 at home on Sunday.
Emerson had one of his best games in a Tottenham shirt, as the wing-back was brilliant going on the attack and was defensively solid as well.
Praise for Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal
Crooks wrote: “Not my favourite player, but I must say the way in which Royal dealt with Jack Grealish, Manchester City’s best player against Spurs, was very impressive.”

Encouraging
In our view, Emerson Royal’s performance against Manchester City is very encouraging for Tottenham Hotspur fans.
We know that the Brazilian can play well, but he does not have the consistent to do so week in and week out.
Tottenham signed Pedro Porro in the January transfer window.
Now, Porro is likely to become the first-choice right wing-back for head coach Antonio Conte.
However, if Emerson keeps up this level of performance, then it will enhance the competition in the Tottenham squad.
