As you may have heard, Arsenal are interested in signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester before the August 31st deadline.

It has been said that the Gunners are planning a late bid for the Belgium international, who was the subject of chanting from the Arsenal supporters in last week’s 4-2 win. According to James Benge, the Emirates Stadium bellowed: “Youri Tielemans, he wants to move here.”

Now, there has been an interesting development regarding Tielemans.

What’s the story?

Well, the 25-year-old was left out of the starting XI by Brendan Rodgers for the trip to Southampton earlier today.

Interestingly, the 49-year-old didn’t beat around the bush when revealing why he left his No.8 out.

Also explaining the absence of Wesley Fofana, Rodgers said: “We’re coming into a Premier League game and we’ve got players who are maybe not in the right frame of mind. You can’t carry them, or certainly we can’t. So yeah, that’s the reason for the changes.”

Given the fact Tielemans – who is valued at £25m – made 29 starts in the Premier League last season, he isn’t someone who the Foxes boss leaves out often.

Youri Tielemans would suit Arsenal perfectly

In our view, the Belgian would be an ideal fit at the Emirates Stadium.

Under Mikel Arteta, the midfielders are encouraged to push forward, just like we saw when Granit Xhaka ended up on the scoresheet in that aforementioned 4-2 win last week.

Tielemans is no stranger to finding himself in the final third and making an impact either, as he was involved in 13 goals for the Foxes last season – you may also remember his stunning winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2021.

Additionally, Tielemans is a fine footballer who can keep possession with ease, so he will also prove useful to Arteta in games where Arsenal need to kill the game and tire the opposition out.

Keep an eye on this transfer saga, as we expect the Leicester No.8 to join Arsenal before the August 31st deadline.
