Celtic want Mohanad Jeahze but Hammarby’s sporting director Jesper Jansson has rubbished claims suggesting that left-back is close to sealing a £2 million move to the Scottish Premiership leaders, speaking to Fotboll Direkt.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Scottish Sun suggested that Jeahze was ‘on the verge’ of becoming Ange Postecoglou’s first signing of the summer.

Alongside a right-winger and a ball-playing centre-half, a new left-back is understood to be one of Celtic’s top targets heading into the transfer window.

But while Iraq international Jeahze is supposedly keen on joining Josip Juranovic, Kyogo Furuhashi and co at Parkhead, reports suggesting that a deal is close to being completed appear to be a little wide of the mark.

“That’s not true. We have not heard anything from Celtic,” Jansson explains.

Mohanad Jeahze to Celtic?

The buccaneering Jeahze, an attack-minded full-back who suits Postecoglou’s free-flowing style down to the ground, was non-committal when quizzed about Celtic’s apparent interest a couple of weeks ago.

The 25-year-old did admit, however, that he may be willing to leave Hammarby for ‘something better’. And Celtic, on the verge of reclaiming their title and thus securing Champions League qualification, would certainly be a step forward in Jeahze’s career.

“I can’t say much about that,” he said. “I’ve always been very clear. If I am going to leave Hammarby, it will be for something better than Hammarby. I love it here in Hammarby.”

Jansson is not the first man to play down speculation regarding one of Celtic’s reported transfer targets this month.

French publication L’Equipe recently claimed that the Hoops had submitted a £2.5 million for Caen striker Alexandre Mendy.

“We don’t know where the story comes from,” says Mendy’s agent, Warsame Egal.

“If a club wants a player, they still start by asking the player if he wants to move, right? But I haven’t been contacted by anyone (from Celtic). So I think it’s obviously false.”

At this time of year, it’s never straightforward sorting the fact from the fiction.
