Mohanad Jeahze insists he will only leave Hammarby for ‘something better’ amid reports linking the left-back with a £2 million move to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic, speaking via The Sun.

The Sweden-born Iraq international is hardly a household name on the green side of Glasgow. But hands up who had heard of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada, Josip Juranovic and Reo Hatate before they arrived at Parkhead?

Yep, thought not.

Given his excellent record in the transfer market since taking over from Neil Lennon last year, Postecoglou deserves the benefit of the doubt as he chases a £2 million-rated left-back who, according to one Hammarby team-mate, is ‘the best’ in his position anywhere in Sweden’s Allsvenskan.

Celtic’s new left-back?

Jeahze was rather non-committal when quizzed on Celtic’s interest this week.

But the buccaneering 25-year-old admits that he will only depart if offered the chance to reach another rung on the footballing ladder.

And even the most ardent Hammarby supporter would have to admit that Celtic would represent a considerable step forward in his career.

“I can’t say much about that,” Jeahze says.

“I’ve always been very clear. If I am going to leave Hammarby, it will be for something better than Hammarby. I love it here in Hammarby.”

Jeahze, who can also play further forward on the wing, set up seven goals last season and, so far this campaign, is averaging better than an assist every three games.

His arrival would provide Greg Taylor with some real competition on the left-hand side, while reducing the need for the right-footed Juranovic to fill in on the opposite flank whenever the former Kilmarnock ace is unavailable.

Celtic have also been credited with an interest in Barnsley’s 22-year-old Hungary international Callum Styles. And, given his ability to slot into more central roles when required, Styles looks a perfect fit for Postecoglou’s patented ‘inverted full-back’ system.
