Frank Leboeuf has slammed former Tottenham Hotspur duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld after Belgium’s World Cup shocker against Morocco.
The former World Cup winner with France suggested that Vertonghen and Alderweireld, who built a stellar partnership at Tottenham, are at an end in their careers, which is proven by teams in the Premier League not wanting them because they are ‘not good enough anymore’.
In 2020, Vertonghen left Spurs on a free transfer after eight years of service to the club, including a visit to the Champions League final, whilst his partner in crime departed 12 months later.

And now they are heading towards a possible group stage exit at the World Cup, with Kevin de Bruyne claiming his nation have no chance of securing glory because they are ‘too old’.
What’s even crazy is that de Bruyne’s comments came after Belgium’s unconvincing win over Canada, as Leboeuf can understand where the Manchester City star is coming from, as he told ESPN.
“Let’s also talk about the two centre-backs, Vertonghen and Alderweireld,” said Leboeuf. “With all due respect for their careers, they aren’t in the Premier League anymore because people or clubs decided that they were not good enough anymore to play in the Premier League, so they were away.
“I understand now what de Bruyne said between the two games ‘now we can’t win the World Cup because we are too old’.
“In so many areas on the field, the player have done well in the history of football, but they aren’t capable of doing what they used to do.”

WHAT ARE BELGIUM MADE OF?
Before a ball was kicked, many were backing Belgium to be one of the teams to suffer an early exit given the nature of their squad.
Players like Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku are half-cooked because their careers are on the decline, whilst Vertonghen and Alderweireld are 33 and 35, respectively.
Well, on Thursday, Belgium have a chance to let the real talking happen on the pitch by beating Croatia for their final group game and progressing to the knockout stages.
