Jamie Carragher has commented about how Arsenal, much like Liverpool need to push Manchester City to the brink to ensure the Premier League remains competitive.

Since the advent of the most watched league in the world, it has always been prided on the fact that it guarantees heated competition.

And that too, especially at the top.

For years on end, fans and pundits alike have raved about how any and every club in the league can defeat the top dogs on a given day.

Since Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium, his side have won the Premier League four times in the last five seasons.

As a result, many, like Carragher have willed league leaders Arsenal on to give Manchester City a fight in the title race, in the same vein as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have recently.

In the three total title fights between the Sky Blues and the Reds, the former won the league by a mere point, which shows how close things have been at the top in recent years.

Carragher wants Arsenal to push Manchester City in title race

Jamie Carragher has expressed the importance for Arsenal to keep Manchester City on their toes in order to ensure the competitiveness of the Premier League is maintained.

“Not everyone will agree, but English football needs Arsenal to maintain their challenge to Manchester City in the same way it was important Liverpool made the Premier League competitive in three of the last four years”, he wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

“The onus has always been on those chasing City to improve. Arsenal have done so. They have come far, but from top to bottom, the club must do everything in their power to complete the journey in the next six months before more obstacles get in the way.”

Ultimately, the neutral would perhaps agree with Jamie Carragher, as a closely-fought Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City would be a sight to behold.
