‘Bang average’: O’Hara blasts Tottenham summer signing duo after Newcastle defeat

Jamie O’Hara has stated that he is ‘not convinced’ by Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signing Ivan Perisic, whilst he also thinks Yves Bissouma is ‘really average’, as he told talkSPORT on Monday morning (23/10/22 at 8:10 am).

Antonio Conte’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, with Bissouma starting in the middle of the park and Perisic coming on as a second-half substitute.

As a result of that performance, O’Hara thinks, aside from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, this Spurs side is ‘bang average’.

There were a number of key players missing yesterday, including the ever-reliable Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and hard-hitting defender Cristian Romero at the back, whilst Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are yet to return from injury.

That meant that Conte had to dig deep into his squad and hand Oliver Skipp and Bissouma starts in the middle of the park, alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, whilst Davinson Sanchez came in for Romero.

Nonetheless, O’Hara wasn’t impressed by what he saw from his former side, as he called out two summer signings.

“We have been found out, the squad is bang average,” said O’Hara. “The new signings have come in and they haven’t really kicked on.

“Perisic, I’m not convinced with. Bissouma has been really average or even poor in a way, then Djed Spence hasn’t really been given an opportunity. We have been found out.”

MOOD CHANGING

Whilst Newcastle fans were dancing in the rain yesterday, it was a miserable day for those in Tottenham colours and it’s only going to get tougher.

After also losing to Manchester United in midweek, it’s now a small matter of a very crucial Champions League tie against Sporting Lisbon on home soil on Wednesday night.

Given the recent injuries, knocks and performances, then the morale of the team needs lifting up because if Sporting win again, then it could be costly for the north London club.

Some may point towards Conte’s tactics as the issue here, whilst others may look at the players because, at the end of the day, it’s the Italian who is the proven winner.
