Kevin Campbell has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur’s culture is about ‘finishing above Arsenal’ in the Premier League, as he told the Highbury Squad.
The former striker added that, for Arsenal, it’s all about ‘winning trophies’, as the north London duo are expected to lock horns for Champions League football next season.
Tottenham pipped their neighbours to fourth spot last time out and they will be hoping to do the same again, but can they add a trophy to boot?
For well over a decade, the Gunners have faltered from being a title-winning powerhouse to a Europa League team, but they have still managed to win four FA Cups along the way.
Whilst Mauricio Pochettino transformed Spurs into Champions League regulars during that time, he couldn’t win that all-important trophy, as Campbell shared his brutal thoughts on the club’s culture without trying to be disrespectful.
“Tottenham’s culture isn’t winning,” said Campbell. “Tottenham’s culture, if we are honest, is trying to finish above us in the league. That’s what their culture is. And I am not being disrespectful.
“Our culture is about winning trophies. Now, what they want to do that they have another world-class manager in, is that they have to turn that around to try and win silverware.
“Silverware is so important. Once you get that taste, then you never want to lose it. Exactly (that’s why Arsenal are now salty).”
WHO WILL BE LAUGHING IN MAY?
Spurs and Arsenal have gone for it this summer, with both managers being backed by their respective boards and more could yet be on the way.
In total, both teams have brought 13 new faces through their doors, with Richarlison being Conte’s big-money transfer and Gabriel Jesus perhaps being Arteta’s best capture.
Either way, Champions League football and a trophy would be the ideal season, with the Premier League title a far reach for both given Manchester City and Liverpool’s qualities.
But, those domestic trophies – The FA Cup and the League Cup – are ones they will be targeting, with Arteta also hoping his side can win the Europa League.
One thing is for sure, one part of north London will be laughing with joy next May, whilst the other will be trying to figure out what went wrong.
