Jose Enrique has stated on his Instagram story that West Ham United had ‘not a chance’ to sign Julian Alvarez following David Moyes’ comments that he could have purchased the Argentina World Cup winner.
Prior to Alvarez joining Manchester City from River Plate, David Moyes shared that one of his scouts advised the Hammers boss to push for the versatile forward, but he felt ‘not the one we want’.
Well, as West Ham hover above the Premier League’s relegation zone and Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca have five Premier League goals between them, then it’s something he shouldn’t have said out loud.

Alvarez has three goals for Manchester City this season, and that’s after playing a back-up role to the goal-crazy Erling Haaland and starting just three games.
So imagine how many he would have had if he was starting on a regular basis? More than Antonio and Scamacca combined, that’s for sure.
Nonetheless, after hearing Moyes’ comments, this is what former Liverpool left-back Enrique posted on his IG story: “When Man City got involved, then they not a chance to get him,” said Enrique.

ALVAREZ IS WHAT WEST HAM NEED
That goalscorer is something West Ham just haven’t been able to get right for many, many years now.
Michail Antonio, albeit a winger by trade, did a pretty good job during the last few years. But now he is coming towards the end of his career.
A player like Alvarez, with his aggression without the ball, quick movement inside the penalty and one-touch finish, is something that West Ham need right now.
