West Ham boss David Moyes has admitted that he rejected the chance to sign Manchester City striker, Julian Alvarez.
Hammers fans would likely be upset over this admission, as the Argentine is one of the best young goalscorers in the world and he was perhaps his country’s most key player after Lionel Messi in their recent World Cup win.
However, it seems David Moyes felt Julian Alvarez was not quite cut out to do the business at West Ham.
Considering the 22-year-old was signed for a bargain fee of just £14.1 million in January last year, it is not as if the East Londoners would have been priced out of paying a fortune to land him.
This news may especially frustrate the club’s dedicated fanbase as both Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca have struggled so far this season.
While the pair of strikers are threats in their own rights, the £50,000-a-week frontman is as complete as they come in European football.
So, for West Ham boss David Moyes to admit that he categorically chose not to sign Julian Alvarez comes as a shock to say the least.
The man himself explains why he chose not to.
West Ham boss David Moyes admits he rejected the chance to sign Julian Alvarez

West Ham boss David Moyes has made a shocking admission that he turned down the chance to sign Manchester City No.9, Julian Alvarez.
When quizzed about his most regrettable mistakes in the transfer window on The Diary of a CEO podcast, the Scot replied, “It’s the ones I’ve missed. The ones where you say, ‘Nah, I don’t think he’s quite good enough. And I’ve had hundreds of them.”
“Well, just recently, because we’ve been talking about it, [Julian] Alvarez, who has just played for Argentina at the World Cup.”
“I brought in a new scout who says, ‘Look, you should go for Alvarez at River Plate. And I watched him, very good, really good technician.”
“He did so many good things as a centre-forward. But I thought, ‘Maybe, quite not the one we want.”
Ultimately, it is clear to see that David Moyes rues that decision about not signing him for West Ham, as it goes without saying that Julian Alvarez is the real deal.
