One of the key areas West Ham United will be looking to bolster this summer is the striker department.

David Moyes is out of the for and it’s Julen Lopetegui’s time to try to overcome the team’s issues in bringing in that number nine that works.

The Moyes era may have ended in a sour fashion, but you can’t argue that his West Ham tenure was outstanding, including bringing in some high-quality players.

But you can’t really give him plaudits for his record of bringing in that out-and-out striker and making it work.

From the currently struggling star Danny Ings to suggestions that they want to bring in Newcastle United’s injury-prone man Callum Wilson to the London Stadium.

One man who left West Ham last summer was Gianluca Scamacca, who despite winning the Europa Conference League, struggled at the London Stadium before signing for Atalanta last summer and then going on to win the Europa League.

The 25-year-old scored 19 goals in all competitions during the recently concluded campaign, but he wasn’t able to transform that form onto the international stage.

Italy are the reigning champions of Euro 2024, but they were booted out by Switzerland without a fight and Scamacca was highly criticised.

Micah Richards stated that the former Hammer was ‘non-existent’ and he should have showcased more during the tournament, as he told Match of the Day on BBC One

Scamacca started three of Italy’s four games at Euro 2024, but he failed to get on the scoresheet and headed home without laying a glove on the opposition.

“We need more from Scamacca,” said Richards. “It was such a disappointing performance. His form this season has been okay. We saw him in the Premier League at West Ham.

“He had a little argument with the manager before about his workrate, but he was non-existent.”

West Ham United’s summer transfer window

It’s going to be interesting to see what type of players Lopetegui targets because there is big pressure on his shoulders to improve the team.

In recent years, fans have been used to playing in Europe, but they missed out last season.

Given that West Ham’s midweeks will be empty, fans will be expecting much better performances and a better style of play.

Sources have told HITC that West Ham are keen on Wolves defender Max Kilman, so it seems as though the new manager is knocking on old doors to improve the team.
