Tottenham have lost five of their last six matches
Jose Mourinho has been criticised by a former Tottenham player over his treatment of Dele Alli.
Jamie O’Hara, who made 56 appearances for the club before joining Wolves, believes the manager has “sucked the life” out of his players.
He’s honed in on Mourinho’s treatment of Alli, whose loan move to PSG fell through on the final day of the January transfer window.
Spurs are on a disastrous run of five defeats in their last six games across all competitions, and now find themselves in ninth place following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.
Alli, who reportedly earns £100,000 per week, has made just five Premier League appearances this season.
He came off the bench against City, however, and O’Hara feels the 24-year-old may be reluctant to set about turning things round for his beleaguered manager.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “The problem I’ve got, and this is my issue with Mourinho, is that as a manager your job is to get the best out of the players you’ve got, whether they’re your players or not, it’s your job to get the best out of them.
“And I just feel like he’s sucked the life out of too many of them already.
“You look at Gareth Bale and look at Dele Alli. He’s cast them aside. Dele Alli wasn’t even getting in the squad, and now all of a sudden he’s putting him on and expecting him to make a difference.
“Players, and especially modern-day players, are gonna go ‘No way mate. You bombed me off for two months and now you’re expecting me to come in and save the season. It doesn’t work like that’.
“They look like a team with a severe lack of confidence right now. They look like they haven’t really got an identity of how they want to play.
“At the start of the season watching Spurs, everyone was talking about how it wasn’t great football but they were getting results. They were resolute at the back, they were keeping clean sheets, they had bodies on the line. Harry Kane was defending in the box.
“It wasn’t pleasing on the eye, but the results were there to see. Now it’s gone the complete other way, all of a sudden we’re trying to attack again, we’re not defending well, we’re leaking goals at the back.
“And I just don’t really know where we are as a team and what we’re actually trying to achieve.”
