Gary Lineker has reacted after Liverpool heard an independent report regarding UEFA’s part in the Champions League final chaos in Paris.
What’s the story?
Well, nightmarish scenes emerged ahead of kick-off between Liverpool and Real Madrid in the 2022 Champions League final, as authorities were witnessed pepper spraying innocent fans.
There was also dangerous congestion due to organisational failure, which caused panicked supporters to have flashbacks of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.
It was an absolute shambles in every sense of the word, with the independent report incredibly stating: “It is remarkable that no-one lost their life.”
After reading the report, Lineker wrote on Twitter: “The conclusions are no surprise: it was a dreadfully organised, dangerous shambles.”
You can see the 62-year-old’s tweet in full below.
The independent report states that UEFA “bears primary responsibility for failures which almost led to disaster” while also criticising local authorities, such as the French police, for their handling of the situation.
Amazingly, UEFA had initially blamed Liverpool fans for kick-off being delayed by 36 minutes with an on-screen message inside the Stade de France, which glossed over the reality of the situation in striking fashion.
Paris report should anger Liverpool fans as UEFA are shamed
If there wasn’t already enough anger from Liverpool fans, the additional details – including horrific details from witnesses – seen in the report should enrage them.

The Hillsborough disaster should never have happened, and the fact UEFA almost caused a repeat of that nightmarish event to occur should see them hit with the hardest sanctions possible.
In truth, they should arguably have the responsibility over this season’s finals taken out of their hands.
Thankfully, no lives were lost, although the fact the independent report expresses shock at that specific fact pretty much sums things up – UEFA must hang their heads in shame.
