As Steven Gerrard moves closer to sealing a first title as Rangers boss, his managerial profile continues to grow south of the border.
Considered one of the finest players of his generation, Gerrard chose Ibrox as his first step on a journey towards success in the dugout.
While the team have improved substantially since his arrival in 2018, he’s yet to put his hands on a trophy.
With Saturday’s 1-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox, however, his Rangers side took a massive step towards securing this season’s Premiership title.
Rangers are now 19 points ahead of their rivals, and could increase that lead to 22 with victory against Aberdeen on Sunday before Celtic play their next match.
Fernando Torres scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool as he revelled in playing alongside Gerrard.
The Spaniard has been impressed with his former team-mate’s progress at Ibrox, and has backed him to one day find himself in the Anfield dugout.
Speaking to Record Sport, Torres said: “At some point a Steven Gerrard return to Liverpool is inevitable as it is his home. He is so hungry for success I know he will want to dominate at Rangers and not just win the title once.
“But Steven Gerrard and Liverpool are one of football’s real love stories. One day I am sure he will return.
“The fact he is doing so well in Scotland he is no surprise. He was our leader, we looked up to him, we listened to him.
“Even back then it was like having another coach in the dressing room – and the players at Rangers are very fortunate to be playing under him.
“As captain he would take time out of his day to go and take a walk with players and talk – and I am sure he is doing that as a coach. My advice would be listen to everything he says.
“Steven is the best player I ever played with. He took my game to another level – I would give anything to be able to go back and play one more game with him at Liverpool.”
