Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer told Match of the Day on BBC One (26/06/21 at 7:50 pm) that there is ‘no doubting the ability’ of West Ham-linked, Marko Arnautovic.

A familiar face to West Ham supporters, Arnautovic has been in action at Euro 2020 this summer, with his Austrian side getting knocked out of the competition at the hands of Italy yesterday.

Arnautovic started the game and the towering technician had a late goal chalked off because of offside, as Italy progressed through after extra-time.

Both Shearer and Ferdinand spoke about the ‘maverick’ out on the Wembley pitch and what’s been missing in his career despite the ability he has at this feet.

“In terms of Arnautovic – there’s no doubt about it, he has quality,” said Shearer. “We just don’t see it often enough.”

Ferdinand added: “He’s a maverick, isn’t he? We saw him at West Ham. He had good spells there.

“Consistency is probably one of the things that has let him down throughout his career. But there’s no doubting the ability he has.

“Once he can get a bit of space and some form then he can do things like this (his goal against North Macedonia for Austria’s Euro 2020 opener).”

Well, Arnautovic was back on English soil yesterday and it will be interesting to see if that’s his destination for this coming season.

TalkSport have previously claimed that the versatile attacker is on West Ham’s summer wishlist.

David Moyes, who helped transform Arnautovic’s career in East London, is looking for new faces, and more depth, for his forward line as they prepare for Europe next season.

Signing Arnautovic would be one hell of a gamble, and given how he left the club, it might not be the right idea to open up that door once again.
