Paul Merson feels Liverpool have ‘more chance of winning’ the Champions League than the Premier League after lifting the Carabao Cup trophy on Sunday, via his Sky Sports column.
Jurgen Klopp’s side won their first piece of silverware for the term after beating Chelsea on penalties at Wembley. The Reds edged the shoot-out, with Blues stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga missing from 12-yards out with the 22nd effort following a goalless draw after extra-time.
The Carabao Cup could mark Liverpool’s first of four potential titles this season as they look to win multiple competitions. Klopp welcomes Norwich to Anfield in the FA Cup fifth-round on Wednesday and Inter Milan in the second-leg of their Champions League tie next week.

Liverpool additionally sit second in the Premier League standings to Manchester City by six-points, but having played a game less. They also hold the superior goal difference over the Citizens, having scored more often (70 to 64). City have conceded the least goals (17 to 20).
Merson feels Liverpool have ‘more chance of winning’ CL than Premier League
Merson feels Liverpool and Chelsea now stand a strong chance of winning the Champions League this season following their performances at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final. He also feels they are favourites over Manchester City due to a fault with Pep Guardiola’s side.
“Those two are not going to be a million miles away from winning the Champions League,” Merson wrote. “They have got the best two defences in Europe and if you want to win Champions League football over two legs, you need to keep clean sheets.
“They are so good at the back. I watch Man City and they will give you a chance. I think Liverpool have got more chance of winning the Champions League than the Premier League.

“They can lose three more matches in the Champions League and still win it. But if they lose three Premier League games, they have got no chance. They have got no leeway in the Premier League.”
Liverpool hold a two-goal lead heading into the second-leg of their Champions League last 16 clash with Inter Milan. Manchester City, meanwhile, lead Sporting Lisbon 5-0 after 90-minutes. As for the defending champions, Chelsea, they beat LOSC Lille 2-0 in the first-leg.
City’s win over Sporting marked their first clean sheet in the competition so far this season. Guardiola’s side had allowed 10 goals in their previous six games, including losing 2-0 away to Paris Saint-Germain. They also lost 2-1 at RB Leipzig, while Liverpool are unbeaten.
