Gary Neville was left impressed when Mo Salah bamboozled Marcos Alonso during Liverpool’s League Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports Football.

Just after the hour mark, Joel Matip thought he had headed Liverpool ahead, only for the goal to be ruled out – as many others were on an action-packed evening in the capital.

But it was Salah who won the free-kick that led to that moment when he dragged the ball back, whilst being challenged by Alonso, before dragging the ball forward and proceeding to wrong-foot the Chelsea man, who fouled him.

It was a moment that caught Neville’s eye during his commentary stint, this is what he had to say.

“Salah just rolls his foot on it,” said Neville. “What a skill that is!

“You think he has lost it, but he keeps control of it as he rolls it back with his studs and pushes it forwards.”

After 120 minutes, both teams may have failed to score, but the men in the dugout and those out on the pitch will be wondering how they didn’t.

It was perhaps one of the most entertaining goalless draws ever played, with Thomas Tuchel’s call to substitute Kepa Arrizabalaga onto the pitch being the biggest talking point.

The Spanish keeper was brought on as a specialist in saving penalties, but not only did he fail to stop all 11 players, including the Liverpool goalkeeper, from putting the ball into the back of the net.

But he ended up blazing his well over the bar and into the crowd of joyous Liverpool supporters.
