James Pearce has written in The Athletic that Liverpool do not plan to sell Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmono anytime soon.
The well-known and well-respected journalist, who is the Liverpool reporter for The Athletic, has said that the defending Premier League champions do not plan to cash in on forwards Salah, Mane or Firmino while they are at the top of their game.
There has been speculation on the future of Salah, with Bernabeu Digital claiming that the Egypt international does not feel loved at Anfield, while Firmino has come under criticism from some for his lack of goals so far this season.
Pearce wrote in The Athletic when asked if Liverpool plan to sell Salah, Mane or Firmino in the long term: “I’m not aware of any grand plan in place. I think like so much in football it will be dictated by circumstances. While they are performing to a really high level, there’s no chance that LFC will look to move any of them on. There will be some tough decisions to be made over the coming years though. Firmino is 29, Salah and Mane are 28 so I’d say they’re currently at their peak.
“Will any of them want to leave and pursue a new challenge before they’re on a downward trajectory? There’s a lot of noise around Salah after the interview he gave to AS in Spain. I think that was a ploy by his reps to try to get LFC to the negotiating table over a new improved contract.”
Sensible stance
Salah, Firmino and Mane all are at the top of their game at the moment and are key players for Liverpool.
It is hard to see the Reds sell any of them in the January transfer window or even in the summer of 2021, especially if they win the Premier League title again this season.
True, it is always good to keep refreshing the squad and adding quality players, but it would not be prudent to sell Salah, Firmino or Mane when they are at the peak of their career.
