Sam Lee has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager target Vincent Kompany is destined to manage Manchester City after Pep Guardiola.

The credible journalist made this claim on The Athletic Football Podcast about the 36-year-old, whose appointment was described as ‘maverick’ by Tony Cascarino on The Game Football Podcast.

While Tottenham Hotspur have continually been speculated with appointing Vincent Kompany as their manager, it seems Manchester City could be his next destination after all.

Journalist Dean Jones had revealed on Friday that while he remains sceptical about whether the Burnley boss is indeed Daniel Levy’s No.1 target, he certainly believes his name is in consideration.

The Belgian tactician has done an astoundingly impressive job in the Championship, leading the Clarets to the fastest-ever promotion in history.

However, Sam Lee has emphasised that it is likely that Vincent Kompany could just replace Pep Guardiola as the Manchester City manager instead of joining Tottenham at all.

“There are so many arguments for it, Pep has spoken this season and said that Kompany will be the City manager. He said it three or four times. It’s one of those isn’t it. We’ve said before about Steven Gerrard definitely going to Liverpool, now that looks less certain.”

“There’s always a feel-good factor around this. I was speaking to someone who knows Kompany and people around Kompany and I said ‘he could replace Pep if it carries on going well’, and he seemed really surprised because he didn’t have that top-level experience.”

Kompany could view Spurs as the litmus test of his potential

While the Sky Blues are well and truly a superteam, to test his capabilities out, he should perhaps explore a move to Spurs.

If Vincent Kompany does impress as Tottenham manager and also manages to win a trophy, he could perhaps deem himself ready to take on the impossible job of succeeding Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

And if not, Kompany could simply move elsewhere and keep honing his craft.
