Michael Owen says Brendan Rodgers is ‘one of the best’ managers around and he thinks Tottenham Hotspur could be thinking about appointing the recently-sacked Leicester City boss.

The former England striker doesn’t think Tottenham will be the only ones looking at bringing Brendan Rodgers in because he also put Chelsea’s name on the table.

After seven months in charge, Graham Potter was sacked by Chelsea, as two London clubs are looking for new faces to bring in.

Those at Hotspur Way have put Cristian Stellini in charge, after booting out Antonio Conte during the international break, so they have made it clear that they want to wait until the summer.

But could it cost them probably getting their top target? Recently sacked Bayern Munich coach, Julian Nagelsmann, seems to be top of many people’s lists, with suggestions that he is now talking to Chelsea.

Nonetheless, following the sacking of Rodgers from the King Power, it wasn’t only Tottenham’s name that Owen threw into the ring, as he told Premier League Productions (04/04/23 at 7:20 pm).

“In the industry, Brendan Rodgers is regarded as one of the best managers about,” said Owen.

“I would be surprised if he didn’t get a top job. The Chelsea job is available. The Tottenham job is available. I wouldn’t put it past one of those two clubs to be thinking of him, at least.

“Listen, I get it (the sacking). Leicester have been on a poor run and the team is languishing. I get the want of change.”

RODGERS TAKES A HIT

The only issue facing Rodgers is that when Spurs fans dream of getting a Nagelsmann, who they probably won’t get anyway, then someone like the Northern Irishman will feel like a step-down.

The interesting thing is that, at Leicester, he has done what Spurs fans crave the most and that’s winning a trophy – The FA Cup.

Added to that, he ticks the box in terms of style of play, but given that a team battling relegation has booted him out, then there will be a sense of reluctance among those who support the club to appoint him.
