Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen has vouched for Brendan Rodgers as the ideal manager to take over the vacancy in N17.

Even Robbie Keane recommended his former club to bring in the Northern Irishman ahead of next season on Monday.

It seems like Brendan Rodgers, who seemed to be an outsider for the Tottenham Hotspur manager job in gaining the backing of many.

Clive Allen tells Tottenham to appoint Brendan Rodgers as next manager

Branded as an ‘unbelievable’ coach by Michail Antonio on BBC Sounds’ Footballer’s Football Podcast, the 50-year-old’s potential appointment seems to be dividing opinion.

While some have merely dismissed Rodgers as a ‘bottler’, the others believe he would gradually build Spurs into a top side.

Clive Allen, who remains an icon at Tottenham, however feels that Brendan Rodgers is perhaps the ideal candidate to become the club’s next manager.

“It’s a really difficult question. I think at the moment, it will all unfold at the end of the season where they finish, and what competitions they’re playing in next season”, he said on talkSPORT.

“For me, at the moment Brendan Rodgers, for me I feel might be the right type of fit for where we are as a club at the moment.”

“I would just like to see someone who really understands the Premier League, who can come to the football club and I think put the team into a style of play that they can adapt to, and they will flourish in. The style of play at times is incredible but at other times, is all over the place.”

HITC View: Rodgers should be low in Spurs’ pecking order

Not to suggest that Clive Allen does not make a fair point about Brendan Rodgers potentially thriving as Tottenham manager but the club can aim higher.

Especially with out-of-work coaches like Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann still on the market.

Rodgers would only make for a smart appointment if such elite tacticians decide not to manage Spurs upon being seriously approached for the job.
