Tottenham Hotspur are giving real consideration to appointing Brendan Rodgers despite his recent exit from Leicester City.

That is according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Rodgers is one name Tottenham are considering appointing.

It’s stated that Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is the top target for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

A host of other names are on the radar though with Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino all considered.

Those four are all out of work and may present interesting opportunities for Tottenham.

The other top candidate is Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who is sitting top of the Eredivisie table right now.

Maybe interest in Rodgers – hailed as a ‘brilliant manager’ by Jamie Carragher – shouldn’t be a huge surprise.

Daniel Levy likes Brendan Rodgers but this could be a big risk

Spurs chief Levy has been a fan of Rodgers for a while now.

Tottenham had identified Rodgers as their preferred candidate to replace Harry Redknapp having seen him impress at Swansea City.

Rodgers told The Times way back in 2013 that he snubbed the move to Spurs in favour of becoming Liverpool boss.

Tottenham ended up going for Andre Villas-Boas instead.

Even as recently as March, TalkSPORT reported that Tottenham are big fans of Rodgers, but this is the first real indication that Rodgers is actually in contention.

Rodgers is newly-available having parted ways with Leicester City at the beginning of April.

Whilst the wider picture is that Rodgers did a good job at Leicester, it ended badly as he took just one point from six games.

The Foxes are in real danger of going down to the Championship and Rodgers is far from blameless in that situation, even if funding came to a halt last summer.

Spurs going for a manager let go by a relegation-threatened team doesn’t exactly smack of progress after sacking Antonio Conte.

Levy is a big fan but there is a real risk of this long-term pursuit backfiring after Rodgers’ struggles this season.
