Jamie Carragher has claimed that Brendan Rodgers joined Liverpool ‘too early’ during his career, as he told Sky Sports
In 2012, at the age of 39, Liverpool pushed towards bringing Rodgers to the club, after he helped Swansea City earn promotion to the Premier League.
The Northern Irishman played expansive football with the Swans, and especially during that period, his forward-thinking style stood out like a sore thumb.
Rodgers would endure one of the most bumpy, action-packed and heartbreaking roads as Liverpool boss, including narrowly missing out on the Premier League title.
Eventually, he was sacked in 2015 and the man who replaced him – Jurgen Klopp – well, the rest is history.
Carragher suggested that if Klopp were to leave then they would turn to somebody like Rodgers, but he feels that ship has now sailed because he has already warmed the Anfield hotseat.
“I am a huge fan of Brendan Rodgers,” said Carragher. “I think he is a brilliant manager.
“I worked with him for 12 months at Liverpool, and in some ways, I think this job came too early for him.
“If Jurgen Klopp was going to leave Liverpool tomorrow then you think Brendan Rodgers would be top of the list. That’s not going to happen because he has been here before.
“I think he has done a brilliant job at Leicester. Yes, it is a slight bump in the road (Leicester’s form).”

Since leaving Anfield, Rodgers has managed to pick himself up from the floor, including wiping the floor with those in Scotland.
In the colours of Celtic, he utterly dominated, from treble seasons to unbeaten campaigns for the Bhoys.
Winning the FA Cup last season in Leicester City colours was another feather in Rodgers cap.
If the Foxes don’t push towards Champions League football during these coming years then it will be interesting to see if a club in that tournament actually comes knocking for the £90k-a-week man’s (Goal) coaching talents.
