Everton are now closing in on a contract to appoint Sean Dyche as their next manager. He is the Goodison Park outfit’s second choice after Marcelo Bielsa to replace Frank Lampard.

That is according to Sky Sports News (28/1, 11:03), which reports the Toffees are putting in place the finishing touches on Dyche’s arrival. Farhad Moshiri has selected Dyche to be the eighth permanent manager of his ownership having sacked Lampard after less than a year.

Everton dismissed Lampard on Monday following the 11th defeat of their Premier League campaign. The 44-year-old left Merseyside with the Toffees 19th in the table on 15 points after 20 games. They had won a division-low three times and drawn in a further six fixtures.

Lampard had also overseen the top-flight’s second-worst offence with just 15 goals scored to Wolves’ 12. While just Anthony Gordon, Demarai Gray (3) and his £20m summer signing from Burnley, Dwight McNeil (2), had found the back of the net more than once this term.

Now, Dyche will look to get more out of the players than Lampard could and guide Everton away from the relegation zone as their next manager. But Moshiri has only moved for the former Clarets boss after Bielsa turned down his chance to take charge, per The Guardian.

Everton will appoint Dyche as their next manager on the same wage as Lampard

Everton are hiring Dyche as their next manager and not as a head coach, giving him greater control over the club’s operations. The 51-year-old will sign a two-and-a-half-year contract, running to the end of the 2024/25 term. Dyche will also bring along his own coaching staff.

Ian Woan and Steve Stone will join Dyche at Goodison after Burnley also dismissed them in April 2022. Woan was Dyche’s No2 throughout his 10 years in charge at Turf Moor. Stone was the Clarets’ U21 boss between 2018 and 2021 before he moved up their senior setup.

Dyche will command a wage of £5m-a-year as Everton’s next manager, which is less than Bielsa had requested. The Daily Mail reported the Argentine asked for £11m-a-year, which he would then split among his staff. While Lampard earned £5m-a-year through his tenure.

Moshiri will now appoint Dyche as the eighth manager of his ownership since first buying a stake in Everton in 2016. He sacked Roberto Martinez, before hiring Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti (the only one to resign), Rafa Benitez and Lampard.
