Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Barcelona central defender Andreas Christensen.

That is according to SPORT, which has noted a problem that Newcastle face in getting a deal done for the former Chelsea defender.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and Barcelona central defender Andreas Christensen? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to SPORT, Newcastle United are interested in signing Andreas Christensen from Barcelona.

Newcastle wanted to sign the former Chelsea defender in the summer of 2023 and remain keen on him.

However, neither Barcelona nor Christensen are considering any move in the January transfer window.

Interestingly, Newcastle were linked with the defender back in the summer of 2022 before he left Chelsea and joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

Newcastle United could struggle to sign Andreas Christensen from Barcelona

In my opinion, Newcastle United could struggle to convince Andreas Christensen to move to St. James’ Park.

I do not think that Barcelona will sell Christensen in the middle of the season. In my view, the £198,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender himself is not going to entertain any offers in January.

After all, Barcelona are aiming to win the La Liga title yet again this season and are also looking to make an impact in the UEFA Champions League.

Christensen is an important player in Xavi’s side. The 27-year-old has made 10 appearances in La Liga and has made two starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League this season.

Barcelona are one of the biggest and most historic clubs in the world. I do not see any reason for Christensen to leave the Blaugrana at the end of the season and move to Newcastle, who are unlikely to win the Premier League title or the UEFA Champions League anytime soon.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk has reported that Newcastle are interested in signing Jonathan Tah.

The report has claimed that Newcastle are planning a move for the Bayer Leverkusen and Germany international defender in the January transfer window.

Tah has been on the books of Bayer since 2015 and is 27 years of age.
