Newcastle United continue to be linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen – and now appear to be ramping up talks to sign him this summer.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that contact was established by Newcastle on Tuesday with a view to signing Osimhen.
That was seemingly with Osimhen’s representatives as contact with Napoli is now expected to come from Newcastle very soon.
It’s claimed that Manchester United are looking to sign Osimhen and their move to land him is in its initial stages.
Newcastle are though ramping up their interest and seemingly hope to secure a major coup by bringing Osimhen to St James’ Park.
Newcastle allegedly want a top striker to fire them into Europe next season and have picked Osimhen as the top target.
Osimhen has hit 13 goals in 25 games this season, emerging as one of the top young strikers in Europe.
This deal won’t be easy for Newcastle though as it’s suggested that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is seeking at least €100million (£85million) for Osimhen.
Gazzetta Dello Sport even claimed earlier this month that Arsenal are leading the race to sign Osimhen this summer.
We know that Newcastle have greater spending power thank to PIF’s investment, but would they really spend that much on one player?

It’s still quite early into this Newcastle project, so for all the big names and exciting rumours, it will take time to really get going.
Spending £85million on one player without even being close to European football is pretty much unheard of in the Premier League.
Even Manchester City didn’t really do that and instead built up with a number of signings between £25million and £50million.
That may be more realistic for Newcastle; players like Bruno Guimaraes, for instance.
Osimhen is a very exciting transfer target for Newcastle and would absolutely bring some star power to this Magpies side.
Initiating contact suggests that Newcastle are serious about this deal but convincing Osimhen to join won’t be an easy task.
