Newcastle United may be closing in on a deal to sign Stoke City striker Joselu, as reported by The Telegraph, but another supposedly ‘imminent’ arrival is headed elsewhere.

Score Nigeria last week claimed that Austria Wien striker Olarenwaju Kayode could be a Newcastle player “within a matter of days”, but according to Sky Sports he has since signed for four years at Manchester City – the first of which he will spend on loan to Girona.

Chelsea winger Kenedy was also said to be closing in on a move to Tyneside, but according to Goal the deal is being held up until the Blues can add to their vastly depleted squad.

Nevertheless, the report states Newcastle are still “expected” to sign the Brazilian on loan.

Elsewhere, Rafa Benitez’s side are assessing a move for Legia Warsaw centre-back Michal Pazdan as one of five new signings, according to The Telegraph.

Newcastle lost Florian Lejeune to injury during Sunday’s defeat against Tottenham and Pazdan, who is it claimed could be available for £3 million, would strengthen Benitez’s options in the Frenchman’s position.

The Spaniard is said to want to add to his striking, goalkeeping and left- and central-defensive departments.

And while there is no mention of a new central midfielder in The Telegraph’s report, The Daily Mail claims Everton’s James McCarthy is on Newcastle’s radar and that his exit will be triggered by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s imminent arrival on Merseyside.

Finally, Portuguese giants Benfica have asked about signing Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul, according to The Daily Mail.

The Dutchman spent the whole of last season out on loan and does not appear to be part of Benitez’s plans for the coming campaign.
