The Stoke City striker could be a Newcastle United player within 24 hours.

Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Stoke City to sign striker Joselu, The Telegraph reports.

Joselu is described as a ‘long-term target’ for Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, and it it claimed his transfer to St James’ Park could be completed within the next 24 hours.

The former Real Madrid man moved to Stoke from Hannover 96 two summers ago, costing the Potters a reported fee of £5.75 million.

And it is claimed Newcastle will pay slightly less than that – £5 million – for the player, who failed to tie down a starting place at Stoke and was loaned to Deportivo La Coruna last season.

Benitez has been openly frustrated about Newcastle’s lack of business this summer, but looks set to make Joselu his sixth recruit of the transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who spent the early years of his life in Germany, has also appeared for Celta Vigo, Hoffenheim and Frankfurt.

Reports last week suggested a move for Chelsea winger Kenedy was also imminent for the Tyneside club.
