A look at the latest Newcastle United transfer stories, including news of Aston Villa’s interest.
Reading boss Jaap Stam confirmed his side’s interest earlier this week [Reading Chronicle], while Middlesbrough have had a £5 million offer turned down [The Sun].
Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow
Aston Villa, however, are also in the market for a new goalkeeper, with no sign yet of former loan star Sam Johnstone returning from Manchester United.
And a move to Villa Park could have sentimental appeal for Darlow, who was released by the Villans at the age of 16.
Elsewhere, Newcastle remain interested in a reunion of their own, according to The Northern Echo, which reports that the Magpies have continued dialogue with Crystal Palace regarding Andros Townsend and are ready to move for their former winger should he become available.
And another wide man could be on the move soon, with Sky Sports reporting that Brentford’s Jota – said to be a target for Newcastle, among others – has been left out of the Bees’ squad for Friday’s friendly against Aldershot, amid an imminent approach from an unnamed Premier League club.
The Spaniard has one year left on his contract in west London and is said to be available for around £8 million.
And finally, Newcastle have expressed an interest in AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang, according to The London Evening Standard.
Former Watford loanee M’Baye Niang
Niang, who spent the second half of last season at Watford, could be out of the Magpies’ price range, however, with the Italian side said to want £18 million for the Frenchman.
