Tuesday’s top transfer news involving Newcastle United.
The attacking pair, of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid respectively, are the latest to be linked with moves to St James’ Park this summer, but this appears to be the first printed – and reliable – confirmation of United’s interest in the latter.
Arsenal are said to want £13.4 million for Perez, for whom Newcastle would prefer a loan move (London Evening Standard), while Liverpool are claimed to have made a £25 million offer for Correa last month (AS).
Angel Martin Correa of Atletico de Madrid
But Correa may not be the only Madrid-based player on his way to Newcastle – not forgetting recent Magpies capture Javi Manquillo – with Lucas Vazquez open to leaving Atletico’s rivals Real, whose manager Zinedine Zidane is willing to sanction his exit, according to AS.
Sticking with the Iberian theme, The Chronicle reports that Mikel Merino will become a permanent Newcastle player once he’s appeared 20 times for the Toon Army.
United are said to have already paid £2.7 million to take the 21-year-old on loan from Borussia Dortmund, and will cough up a further £6.5 million once he hits the above milestone.
Ivan Toney of Newcastle United
And finally, former Magpies Lomano Lua Lua could be set for a return to the northeast… with the region’s second biggest club South Shields.
The 36-year-old was pictured training with the EvoStik League First Division North side on Monday, although it remains to be seen whether he will link up with them on a longer-term basis.
