Newcastle United have another chance to re-sign Valentino Lazaro after Denzel Dumfries’ move to Inter Milan pushed the winger closer towards the exit door, per Calciomercato.

The Nerazzurri finalised the Dutch full-back’s move to the San Siro on Tuesday to replace Achraf Hakimi. Simone Inzaghi required a new option in the position after the Moroccan joined Paris Saint-Germain following last season’s Serie A title win under Antonio Conte.

Dumfries’ arrival in Italy leaves Lazaro facing a bleak future, with his presence in the Inter squad now at risk. Inzaghi does not have the space to offer the Austrian the minutes he craves, so would not rule out selling.

Eintracht Frankfurt are on alert to Lazaro’s potential availability as the Bundesliga outfit seek new right-sided options. Die Adler consider the 25-year-old to be a suitable target after he spent last season with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Before that, Lazaro spent the latter half of 2019/20 on loan from Inter at Newcastle. And Gazzetta dello Sport reported last month that he would now jump at the chance to return. Although Steve Bruce’s Magpies had not made the Nerazzurri an offer at that stage.

Newcastle held a €23.5m (£20m) option to buy Lazaro from Inter after paying €1.5m (£1m) for his loan, per TuttoMercatoWEB. The Nerazzurri were also optimistic of the Tyneside outfit triggering the clause, to avoid paying his €1.5m-a-year (£25k-p/w) wage. But, in the end, Bruce looked elsewhere to spend what riches he had available last summer.

Now, Newcastle may have another chance to sign Lazaro from Inter while Frankfurt weigh up an offer. The Nerazzurri will speak with the 32-cap international’s representatives in the coming days to establish what options are viable for his immediate and long-term future.

Should Newcastle offer Lazaro another chance away from Inter Milan?

Lazaro had a slow start to his time at Newcastle while on loan from Inter, but started to find his feet nearer the end of the 2019/20 season. It was ultimately not enough to secure him a permanent move, but Lazaro still appears to think fondly of life on Tyneside.

The Graz-born playmaker would also offer Bruce an option on either side, after floating around the Monchengladbach line-up. His overall output was hardly remarkable, but could help the Toon strike another loan to fit within their limited budget.
