The transfer window slammed shut on August 30th but Newcastle United are still cooking up some surprises.
It was ultimately an underwhelming window for Eddie Howe as the Magpies failed in their attempt to secure the signing of Marc Guehi.
One of the positives for Newcastle United this summer however was that they were able to offload a number of stars, in a bid to ease the pressure of PSR.
Both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh exited St James’ Park for over £30m, whilst long-term Toon stalwarts Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett departed Tyneside following the expiration of their contracts.
The latest of those summer departures though has come outside of the window as Jamal Lewis leaves the north-east outfit on loan.

Jamal Lewis joins Sao Paulo on loan
In a move that has shocked most fans, Newcastle left-back Lewis has moved to South America in a temporary switch to Sao Paulo (as reported by BBC Sport).
The Northern Irishman has struggled for game time since his Toon switch in 2020, going out on a series of loans over the past few seasons.
The latest of those loans saw the full-back make 38 appearances at Championship outfit Watford during the 23/24 season.
With his last Magpies appearance being a two-minute cameo against Chelsea way back in May 2023, the defender has packed his bags and travelled south of the equator in a bid to get game time.
Lewis’ Sau Paulo move is the first of its kind, as the Newcastle loanee becomes the first ever UK-born player to play for the three-time Copa Libertadores Champions.
What other UK players have played in Brazil?
Despite Lewis’ history-making move, he is in fact not the first UK-born player to lace their boots in Brazil.
An unknown Peterbrough-born defender by the name of Seth Burkitt actually holds the record, having played for Sorriso EC in 2009.
The former Stamford star made the move at just 18-years-old after being spotted during a tournament in Brazil. After impressing at the event, Burkett was spotted by a local football agent who helped him secure a six-month deal with Sorriso EC.
Sadly for Burkett though his Brazilian dreams would soon fade out as he only managed to rack up 15 minutes of first-team football during his six-month spell eventually returning to the UK and enrolling at Loughborough University.
