Newcastle United are pursuing Samuel Fagbemi and are now in talks to land the Manchester City talent spotter this summer.
Newcastle finally confirmed the arrival of Dan Ashworth on Monday after months of speculation.
The Brighton director arrives as Newcastle’s new sporting director with immediate effect after compensation was agreed.
Newcastle are still looking to revolutionise the club though and a young talent spotted now appears to be the next priority.
Newcastle United are pursuing Samuel Fagbemi
Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter on Monday to claim that Newcastle are in talks to land Manchester City scout Samuel Fagbemi.
Fagbemi is being targeted with a view to being Newcastle’s new head of recruitment for youth at St James’ Park.
Fagbemi will allegedly make his decision in the coming days with Newcastle hoping to land something of a coup.
Mikel Arteta wanted to take Fagbemi to Arsenal in 2019 but he ended up choosing to stay with Manchester City.
Fagbemi was a scout at Arsenal some years ago but has been upwardly mobile in the City ranks in recent years.

Romano’s tweet highlights how Fagbemi has been key to the additions of talents like Samuel Edozie, Josh Wilson-Esbrand and Romeo Lavia.
That’s exactly what Newcastle are seeking; input from somebody to help them overhaul their youth setup.
Newcastle have struggled to bring through young talent in recent times and now have the investment needed to bring in quality youngsters.
Fagbemi did a great job bringing talent from the south up to Manchester, and that will be the hope for Newcastle too.
The North East often isn’t viewed as being all that appealing to players in the south, so it may take some time to reach City’s level of appeal.
Fagbemi’s knowledge and history is superb though and Newcastle will feel that he can make a huge difference moving forward.
UPDATE: Romano has now deleted the tweet regarding Newcastle’s interest in Fagbemi. It’s unclear what that means for the Magpies’ interest in him, but the hope will be that a deal can still be done.
