Sam Allardyce has said on talkSPORT (7:15am, January 18, 2022) that he would be open to becoming the new manager of Everton.

However, Allardyce has made it clear that if he were to go back to Everton, then it would be on a short-term basis.

The former Newcastle United and West Ham United manager has suggested that Duncan Ferguson should become the new permanent boss of the Toffees.

Everton are looking for a new manager following the sacking of Rafael Benitez.

Allardyce is without a managerial job at the moment following his departure from West Bromwich Albion at the end of the 2020-21 season.

The Englishman was in charge of Everton from November 2017 until May 2018.

Allardyce said on talkSPORT about the prospect of becoming the new manager of Everton: “If they needed me to help them out or they felt the need, yes, I would. I wouldn’t say that would be long term because I am not sure that would be right for Everton or for me.”

The Englishman added: “Now I think it’s Duncan’s time, and I think he is ready. If I can help Duncan in any shape or form, I would do that because I think he is a fantastic guy and I think he is Everton through and through. Maybe that’s what the club needs at the moment.”

Sam Allardyce back to Everton?

In our view, it is very unlikely that Everton will re-hire Allardyce even for until the end of the season.

The Toffees are unlikely to go back to a manager who was not very popular among the fans.

Moreover, Everton do not need Allardyce at the moment.

Yes, results have not been great for the Toffees, and they are only six points above the Premier League relegation zone.

But, Everton do have some good players who can certainly play much better and take the team further up the Premier League table.
