Newcastle United may not be signing Scott McTominay this month but a move could be revisited at the end of the season.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Newcastle have held conversations over a potential move for McTominay.
It’s suggested that Eddie Howe is a keen admirer of McTominay for his athleticism and ball-carrying ability.
Yet whilst Newcastle are keen, the Red Devils won’t let McTominay leave as there would be limited time to replace him.
The report does though add that the situation surrounding McTominay to Newcastle is set to be revisited in the summer.
Newcastle have been linked with midfielders like Moises Caicedo and Youri Tielemans but McTominay seems to be a prime target.

Newcastle surely have a great chance of signing Scott McTominay this summer
The Magpies have built a strong starting XI but adding depth in all areas will be vital moving forward.
Midfield is one such area and Howe seemingly wants a physically imposing midfielder to support Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
McTominay is a huge presence at 6ft 4in tall and seemingly ticks the boxes Howe is seeking.
The Scotland international may have started against Arsenal on Sunday but his performance wasn’t great and Erik ten Hag may be willing to sell if he can get a quality replacement.
That is more likely to happen in the summer, when United may even have Champions League money to spend on midfield reinforcements.
McTominay may not be flashy but he’s a hard worker and a team player, aspects that Howe will absolutely value.
Hailed as ‘extremely talented’ by United teammate Luke Shaw, McTominay has played nearly 200 games for United and may well be ready for a new challenge.
If Newcastle don’t find an alternative target before the end of this window, a summer deal for McTominay will be very plausible.
