Luke Shaw heaped huge praise upon his Manchester United college, Scott McTominay, before the pair face off at the European Championships.

Speaking during a press conference (via Sky Sports), Shaw was asked about McTominay ahead of England and Scotland’s Euros clash next Friday.

The pair have been United teammates for some time and have both just enjoyed superb individual campaigns.

But when their respective countries clash, the friendship will be thrown out of the window.

For now, Shaw remained gracious when discussing McTominay’s talents whilst representing the Red Devils.

“Scott’s been brilliant for us this season,” said the Old Trafford left-back.

“Even in the final, for me personally, I thought he was our best player on the pitch that night.

“He’s grown massively from when he first made his debut.

“He’s an extremely talented player and a very important part of Manchester United.

“You can obviously see that the manager trusts him because he’s in the team a lot.”

Marvellous McTominay

Although Shaw and Bruno Fernandes were arguably Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s two standout performers in 2020/21, McTominay was excellent in his own right.

It’s been a gradual embedding process for the 24-year-old, but now he’s in, it feels like he’s here to stay.

The midfielder made 49 appearances across all competitions; only five United players racked up more games.

McTominay also scored seven times, far and away his best return in senior football.

He will now be looking to top off a brilliant year by helping Scotland navigate their first major tournament since 1998.

They kick off their Euros campaign against the Czech Republic on Monday, before the crunch match with England next Friday.
