Newcastle United and Watford wanted to sign Axel Tuanzebe from Manchester United in the January transfer window before he left Aston Villa for Napoli on loan, according to The Athletic.
Tuanzebe was on loan at Villa this season, but he decided to move to Napoli on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the campaign.
The Athletic have reported that both Newcastle and Watford ‘asked about his situation’ before the 24-year-old English defender made the switch to Napoli.
The report has added that Newcastle, then managed by Steve Bruce, were keen on signing Tuanzebe in the summer of 2021 as well.
